English Teaching Position
In the Rose Education Foundation schools, native English-speaking teachers work along side local English teachers. Their native accent
and language ability provide a model for students and local
teachers. Native English-speaking teachers form an essential part
of the EFL program. Their teaching skills and native language
ability provide the advantage that English programs in
other schools in Guatemala lack.
Responsibilities
- Attend a one-week intensive Spanish course in Guatemala before beginning work in the schools (for non-fluent Spanish speakers).
- Work at the school from approximately 7:30 am until 3:00
pm Monday through Friday.
- Assist regular teachers in 3
to 4 40-minute English classes per day, Monday through
Friday, at one of the Foundation’s
schools.
- Help regular teachers prepare
and teach English classes.
- Cover English classes when regular
teachers are absent.
- Provide students with one-on-one
and small group instruction during English classes.
- Work with a variety of age groups
and ability levels. Student ages range from 4 to 17
years old.
- Participate actively in school
activities (assemblies, field trips, after-school activities,
etc.).
- Help plan and execute an evening
activity to showcase the English program and student
English skills once a semester (usually in May and
September).
- Participate in training and other
activities to improve English teaching.
- Work with students, faculty,
administration, and parents to improve the English
program.
- Be willing to use talents and
abilities in the school and community as the need arises.
